Senior Data Engineer
Join our core engineering team to build the next generation of healthcare data pipelines.
About the Team
You will join a small, high-impact engineering team building the data backbone of Aquila Health. We move fast, ship often, and care deeply about code quality and patient outcomes. Our stack is TypeScript, Python, PostgreSQL, BigQuery, and GCP.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines for healthcare data ingestion and transformation
- Collaborate with product and clinical teams to define data models that support FHIR, HL7, and X12 standards
- Optimize query performance across large-scale datasets in PostgreSQL and BigQuery
- Implement data quality checks and monitoring for production pipelines
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to architecture decisions
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or backend systems
- Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and at least one modern data framework (dbt, Spark, Airflow)
- Experience with healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7v2, X12) is a strong plus
- Familiarity with GCP services (BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub) or equivalent
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in health-tech or with HIPAA-regulated environments
- Contributions to open-source data tools
- Experience with Terraform or infrastructure-as-code
